Create.ed was conceived as a conference series focusing on new ways of teaching and learning in the creative industries. The aim of the conferences is to increase the understanding, capability and opportunity for delegates to develop their vision for teaching and learning in the service of the creative industries.

The first of these conferences, titled ‘eLearning for the Creative Industries’, was held on 2 October 2003 at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. Presenters were asked to contribute papers on the following themes:

  • Current developments in eLearning and how they are being used as new teaching methods for students studying to participate in the creative industries.
  • ‘Promising practices or best practices’ in eLearning for creative students.
  • eLearning and educational performance. Can schools and universities leverage eLearning for success in the creative disciplines? If so, what are the key factors that are likely to facilitate or hinder such developments?
  • What new skills should we equip our creative students with to operate as successful practitioners in the new economy?
  • How can we best support the creative eLearner? What are the barriers to eLearning and how can they be overcome? What are the issues in eLearning that pertain, in particular, to creative students?
  • Measuring the impact of eLearning for schools and educational organisations: How do we know that it is all worthwhile and what of the future?

Papers were submitted for review by many of Australia’s leading practitioners in the area of eLearning for the Creative Industries. Their final papers, peer reviewed by an international panel of experts, are published here.
