Routes, Roots and Routines: Selected papers from the 2011 Australia/New Zealand IASPM Conference

The 2011 IASPM conference, hosted by Geoff Stahl at Victoria University of Wellington, was indeed an experience. The Australia/New Zealand branch of the international organisation is particularly lucky to have such enthusiastic and generous members, and this time around we were especially pleased to have new faces join us, and several 'better known' faces return after short breaks away.

The papers were diverse in their approach and focus, drawing on popular music routes, routines and roots from both sides of the Tasman, and, of course, beyond. We are pleased to be able to offer a selection of these here and want to first thank Geoff and the IASPM executive for organising the event (and the Ping Pong Country!). This collection demonstrates how vibrant the popular music academy is at the moment, and we are proud to be associated with it.
