Search

You need to enter your details into Informit Admin.

Note: ensure Web holdings active is set to No.

  • Log in to Informit Admin.
  • Go to User preferences.
  • Set the OpenURL active field to Yes.
  • Enter the base URL of your OpenURL resolver in the OpenURL base URL field, e.g. sfx.myuni.edu.au:9003/sfx_local?.
  • Enter the URL of the image you wish to display in Informit as the link icon.
  • Place this image in the OpenURL image field, e.g. sfx.myuni.edu.au:9003/images/sfx_image.gif.
  • Optional: enter OpenURL window width/height to specify the size of the OpenURL window to open. (The default is 400x400.)
  • Optional: set the OpenURL block if InformitFT? field to Yes if you want to suppress the OpenURL link from appearing when full text is already available from Informit.
  • Save changes.

If Informit is not used for a period of time it will log out. The time out default is set at 6 minutes. Email support.informit@rmit.edu.au for assistance.

Mozilla Firefox

  • Options, Privacy, in the dropdown menu under History, select Firefox will: Use custom settings for history.
  • Check the box—Accept cookies from sites.

Internet Explorer

  • Tools, Internet Options, Privacy. Ensure this is set to Medium.

Yes. Links can be made to all Informit databases including Media databases. You may also link directly to program home pages, or even to individual items, such as a news story. All links will continue to resolve for the life of Informit Media.

Two dropdown menus are available on the Search Results display screen that allow users to customise display options—Sort and View.

  • Sort. The preset default display is Sort by Relevance. Available options are:
    • Sort by Relevance (results ranked by relevance to search term(s))
    • Sort by Newest (descending order with most recent records first)
    • Sort by Oldest (ascending order with oldest records first)
    • Sort by Publication (alphabetical order by publication title)
    • Sort by Database (alphabetical order by database containing records).
  • View. The preset default display is Brief view. Available options are:
    • Brief view (records show Title, Author and Source)
    • Abstract view (records show Title, Author, Source and Abstract)
    • Record view (all available fields in the record).

Available export options that you can select are:

  • Number of records to save or email:
    • All records (maximum 200)
    • Range (defined by the user)
    • Marked records (only those marked by the user).
  • Fields to save or email:
    • Complete record (default)
    • Brief fields
    • Brief and Abstract fields.
  • Field label format:
    • Long field labels (default)
    • Short field labels
    • No field labels.
  • Output format:
    • HTML (default)
    • Plain text
    • EndNote
    • EndNote Direct
    • RefWorks Direct
    • XML.

Yes. Limits are set for the duration of a session only.

Marked records are active for the duration of a session only. To retain marked records you need to save, email or print them before logging out of Informit Search.

Note: if your session times out, your marked records will be lost.

Yes. EndNote connection files are available from each database information page. From the Products menu select the database you require the connection file for, then click on the link to the Database field information page under Resources.

Follow these steps to use the connection file:

  1. Download the .enz EndNote connection file.
  2. Double click the connection file to open in EndNote.
  3. In EndNote, click the File menu and choose Save as. Remove the word copy and save.
  4. Click on File Menu and choose Close Connection.

Yes. There are two methods for transferring bibliographic records from Informit into EndNote.

  1. Export references from Informit:
    • Conduct a search on Informit.
    • In the Results list, check the records you wish to add to EndNote and save.
    • Under Output Format, select EndNote Direct and save.
    • Double click the saved RIS file to open in EndNote.

  2. Search and download Informit records from EndNote. To do this, you must download and install the appropriate database connection file. See the above FAQ (Are there any EndNote connection files available for Informit databases?) for instructions on using Informit database connection files and refer to Chapter 6 of the EndNote online user guide for details on searching an online database.

Yes. Bibliographic records can be exported from Informit into either your RefWorks or ProQuest Flow online library by following these steps:

  1. Conduct a search on Informit.
  2. In the results list, check the records you wish to export and save.
  3. Under Output Format, select RefWorks Direct and save.
  4. If your browser prevents the automatic re-direction, click the Export to RefWorks button.

Your selected records will be imported into your RefWorks online library (you may need to log in); if you have accessed your ProQuest Flow library from your browser, your records will automatically be redirected there.

No—there is no embargo on content cleared by Copyright Agency Limited (CAL) for Informit.
